I’m sorry, but I don’t know what you are referring to as the ‘property sheet’. You make reference to the encoding, so I wonder if you are talking about the so-called Code Page file (.cpg) that goes along with the .dbf file?
Could you be more specific about what you edited, and also what you mean by garbled code that resulted from your edits?
