Tiles overlay to support combined layers or layergroup?

As is known to us, in mapwingis we can use TileProviders to implement our own custom tile layer as a basemap. My concern is that is it possible to combine two or more tile layers in the tile provider, or is it possible to add a tile layer to the map as an operational layer rather than a basemap layer? How to implement something like WMTS layer.
